Seven Good Reasons for Stump Removal

Tree removal is a necessity at times. Stump removal is not always a necessity, but there are some good reasons to remove a stump on your property.

  1. Stumps are just not pretty. Aesthetically speaking, the sight of a stump in your front yard isn’t too appealing, unless you are very creative in hiding it!
  2. Stumps are hazardous. Stumps can be dangerous in your yard, especially if you have children running and playing outside. They can also be a liability if someone trips and injures himself on a stump in your yard. A tree stump can also damage your mower (and you) if you accidentally hit it while mowing your lawn.
  3. Stumps can start new tree growth. Some trees will continue to sprout on and around the stump, leaving you with many suckers (small trees) trying to make a go of it in your yard. You may then have to use chemicals to remove them. These little trees also leach nutrients from other plants nearby, degrading the overall health of your yard.
  4. Stumps are a pain to work around. If you are an avid or meticulous landscaper person, having that stump in the middle of your yard can just be a pain to work around when mowing or weeding.
  5. Stumps attract insects. When you leave a stump in your yard, it very slowly begins to decay, attracting beetles, ants and other wood-boring pests. Which may be okay in your yard, but not if they spread to your home.
  6. A decaying stump can also foster several types of fungus, which can spread to other plants.
  7. Stumps take up yard space. The space you lose from a large stump can be significant, especially in a small yard. Imagine what else could be in that spot!
